Understanding Genshin Impact’s Pity System: Soft vs Hard Pity

The pity system in Genshin Impact essentially ensures that you receive certain ranks of characters after wishing a certain number of times. It helps to mitigate some uncertainty in the Gacha system. Players are guaranteed to get either a 4 or 5-star character or weapon after a specific number of rolls:

  • Limited Character Banner: Roll 10 times for a guaranteed 4-star and 90 times for a guaranteed 5-star.
  • Standard Banner: Roll 10 times for a guaranteed 4-star and 90 times for a guaranteed 5-star.
  • Weapon Banner: Roll 10 times for a guaranteed 4-star and 80 times for a guaranteed 5-star.

While the base probability for obtaining a 5-star character is just 0.6%, there’s a hidden element in the system known as soft pity. This begins around the 75th pull on the Character Event Wish banner and the Standard Wish banner, gradually increasing your chance of obtaining a 5-star character until it reaches 100% at the 90th pull. Basically, from the 75th pull onward, your odds improve significantly — increasing by approximately 6% with every wish until you’re guaranteed a 5-star on the 90th wish.

However, pity does not carry over between different types of banners. For example, the Weapon Event Wish and the Character Event Wish banners each maintain separate pity counts. This means you must build pity on each banner independently if you wish to secure a guaranteed five-star character. Nevertheless, pity does carry over to the next banner of the same type, which ensures that your prior pulls aren’t wasted.

To track your pity, simply click the History button on the Wish page. From there, you can count the number of pulls since your last 5-star character. , given the grim 0.6% drop rate for 5-star characters, it’s crucial to understand this system to maximize your chances!

How to Effectively Use the Genshin Soft Pity Calculator

The Pity System in Genshin Impact

The Pity System is a Gacha feature in Wish Banners. It refers to the number of pulls or wishes needed before you’re guaranteed a 4-star or 5-star. Notably, you can still get a 4-star or 5-star before reaching this guaranteed number.

Understanding Soft Pity

Soft Pity specifically refers to the range of wishes between 60 to 80 pulls since your last 5-star character or weapon. This term is used when you are closer to your 89th pull without getting a 5-star character or weapon, but have not quite hit it yet.

It’s important to take note that pulling for characters relies heavily on luck. If you land a 5-star wish and receive a character that you didn’t want, you ultimately lose. Therefore, consider the Pity System’s mechanics and save up your Primogems and Intertwined Fates to prepare for the banner of your desired character.

Using the Genshin Soft Pity Calculator

This calculator helps determine the probabilities of acquiring a target number of featured/limited five-star characters or weapons from wishing in the game. It functions similarly to a simulator but does not involve random number generation. Instead, it iterates through the combinations/permutations of percentages (chances), multiplying and adding accordingly.

The calculator tracks radiance; it increases by one when you lose the 50/50, and resets when you win. When a 50/50 is lost at 0/1/2/3 radiance, you have 0%/5%/50%/100% chance for the loss to turn into a win. In total, this gives you a 50%/52.5%/75%/100% chance to win the 50/50.

For the current version, the calculator does not automatically for ‘return wishes’; this is where ‘starglitter’ can be earned from pulls and exchanged for more chances at the target(s).

Mechanics of Soft Pity

While guaranteed pity occurs at 90 pulls, soft pity starts taking effect around 74 pulls. Essentially, soft pity significantly increases your chances of receiving a 5-star item without guaranteeing it. This method ensures that a 5-star item will have a slightly higher drop rate before the actual pity count.

Calculating Your Pity

To calculate your pity in Genshin Impact, follow these steps:

  1. Banne Selection: Determine which banner to track your pity for, such as Character Event Wish.
  2. Probability Mechanics: Keep in mind that the base probability of getting a 5-star weapon is 0.7%. This remains true until the threshold of approximately 62 pulls is reached. After that, the probability linearly increases up to 100%.

Exploring the Impact of Soft Pity on Your Character Pulls

The mechanics of pity in Genshin Impact can significantly influence your character pulls. Firstly, the pity system operates on two levels: soft pity and hard pity.

Soft Pity: This mechanic starts taking effect around 74 pulls, with a notable increase in your chances of obtaining a 5-star character or weapon beginning at approximately 75 wishes. Specifically, soft pity is said to enhance your odds by about 33% from this point onward. However, the exact numbers are hard to pinpoint as they are not explicitly detailed by the developers. Thus, although your chances increase, it does not guarantee a 5-star until you reach the hard pity threshold.

Hard Pity: Guarantees that you will receive a 5-star item after a specific number of wishes, specifically at the 90th wish. When you reach this milestone, you have assurance that you will acquire a featured 5-star character if it hasn’t been obtained earlier.

Moreover, pity in Genshin Impact also involves the concept of a 50/50 chance in limited character banners. When reaching pity, there is a 50% likelihood of obtaining one of the featured characters listed on the banner. If you lose this 50/50, reaching pity again assures you will get the featured character.

Additionally, the pity system applies differently for 4-star items. While there is no guaranteed pity for 4-star characters or weapons, the game enhances your chances after a certain number of wishes, known as 4-star pity or rate-up pity.

To maximize the effectiveness of these mechanics, it is advisable to save a substantial number of wishes before pulling on a banner. This allows more attempts and increases the likelihood of activating the pity system, thus improving your chances of obtaining highly sought-after characters or weapons.
