7.1.2. Who killed Darth Sidious?
In the final act of Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, Darth Sidious (also known as Emperor Palpatine) is killed by Darth Vader (Anakin Skywalker), who throws him down a chasm after being unable to bear the sight of his son in pain from the Emperor’s Force lightning.
Ironically, the man who brought Darth Sidious to power, Darth Vader, was also the one who ultimately ended his reign. In Return of the Jedi, witnessing Palpatine torturing Luke, Vader’s paternal instincts kicked in, overriding his loyalty to his master.
