Trading, Mega Stones, and Bank in Pokémon ORAS & XY: Your Questions Answered!

Ready to jump back into Pokémon ORAS and XY? You may be curious about trading Pokémon or hunting Mega Stones.

No worries, trainer! We have all the details about trading, Mega Evolutions, and the Pokémon Bank in the Gen 6 era. Let’s get started!

Trading Between ORAS and XY: Yes, It’s a Go!

Great news! You can trade between Pokémon Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, X, and Y. After you get your Pokédex and unlock the Player Search System (PSS), trading awaits.

All 719 Pokémon species are available in all four games. Note that in original X and Y, trades were only possible between X and Y. If you want to learn more about trading in XY, check IGN’s guide.

Want to trade with a specific friend? Become 3DS friends with those codes. Then, play your games online together. Simple!

Restrictions? Just a Tiny One.

Here’s the catch. One major restriction exists for trading: Cosplay Pikachu. This unique Pikachu cannot be traded between games. Keep that in mind if you plan to trade Pikachu.

Mega Stones: Power Up Your Pokémon!

Mega Stones! Who doesn’t love Mega Evolution? Hunting for these stones can be an adventure. Let’s go over how to find Mega Stones in both XY and ORAS.

Mega Stones in Pokémon X and Y

In XY, Mewtwo’s Mega Stone is easy to find. Catch Mewtwo in the Unknown Dungeon west of Pokémon Village. Depending on your version (X or Y), you’ll get Mewtwoite X or Y.

Gardevoir fans, listen up! To get Gardevoirite, visit Diantha in Lumiose City. Find her in the café where you first met her. Trade her any Pokémon, and she will give you a Pokémon holding Gardevoirite. Sweet deal!

Mega Stones in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

ORAS also has unique ways to acquire Mega Stones. For Diancie’s Mega Stone, transfer your Diancie from X or Y to ORAS. Make sure Diancie is in your party and enter any Pokémon Center. A scene will play, and you’ll get the Mega Stone!

Want to Mega Evolve Gyarados in ORAS? Gyaradosite is somewhat hidden. Go to Route 123, entering from Route 122’s northeast side. Find the “123 Go Fish” shack. Inside, interact with the Poochyena. Get ready – Gyaradosite is yours!

Rayquaza: The Rule-Breaking Mega Evolution

Rayquaza? This legendary Pokémon breaks the rules. It can Mega Evolve without needing a Mega Stone or a Key Stone – quite interesting, right? This ability shows up in Pokémon the Series: XY .

Mega Evolution: Temporary Power Boost

The best part? Mega Evolution is temporary. Your Pokémon can return to their normal form anytime. This offers great flexibility! Time to strategize those transformations, trainers.

Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter: Cloud Storage for Your Pokémon

Now, let’s discuss Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter – your digital storage solutions. What are these?

Pokémon Bank: Your Online Pokémon Boxes

Pokémon Bank is your online Pokémon storage system. You can deposit, store, and manage Pokémon in internet Boxes. Need to free up space? Pokémon Bank is the answer.

Poké Transporter: Bridging Generations

Poké Transporter helps you move Pokémon from older games – think Gen 5 (Black, White, Black 2, White 2) and Virtual Console Gen 1 & 2 games (Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal) – to Pokémon Bank. For more info, check out Bulbapedia.

Compatibility: Moving Pokémon Across Games

Want to transfer Pokémon from older games (like X, Omega Ruby) to newer ones like Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon? Pokémon Bank is your tool. It connects generations.

Still Active and (Mostly) Free!

Good news! Even with the eShop closure, Pokémon Bank continues to operate and is free! You can use it to send Pokémon to Pokémon HOME, but for HOME you’ll need a paid Plan. Poké Transporter still works too.

Limitations: One-Way Trips and Potential Pokémon Loss

However, be aware of important limitations:

  • When a Pokémon goes to Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon, it’s a one-way trip – you can’t return to Omega Ruby or X/Y. Make a smart choice!
  • Gen 6 games (XY, ORAS) allow two-way transfers with Bank, so you can freely deposit and withdraw.
  • But once you withdraw a Pokémon in a Gen 7 game (Sun, Moon, USUM), it stays there. You cannot re-deposit it back in Bank for Gen 6.
  • Pokémon HOME succeeds Bank, and Pokémon cannot go back to Bank after being transferred there. It’s a one-way trip.
  • Important! If your Pokémon Bank hip (even the free option) expires and you don’t transfer your Pokémon to HOME, they will be deleted forever. Don’t risk losing your Pokémon!

Trading and Online Services: What’s Still Kicking?

Let’s tackle an important topic – online services. What’s the status of trading and online features for these games in 2024 and beyond?

Nintendo Wi-Fi Channel and 3DS Online Services: Shutdown

The Nintendo Wi-Fi Channel is long gone. So, no official online trading via that service. Bad news – Nintendo shut down 3DS and Wii U online servers in April 2024.

Wonder Trades? No more. All online features for 3DS games, including ORAS and XY? Finished. As Nintendo stated, online play for 3DS and Wii U ceased on April 8, 2024.

But local trades are still here! Gather friends for some good old local trading.

Pokémon Bank: Surprisingly Still Active

Pokémon Bank remains active and free! No closure is planned for this service. It’s great for transferring and storing your Pokémon especially for moves to Pokémon HOME.

Rocket League Trading: A Sign of the Times

By the way, if you’re a Rocket League player, be aware that online player trading was removed in December 2023. Online features have limits.

So there you go! Trading between ORAS and XY is still possible locally. Mega Stones are available. Plus, Pokémon Bank stays a (mostly) free option for storage and transfer. Happy training! May your trades go well!
