Unmasking the Ruin Guards of Genshin Impact: Ancient War Machines and How to Wreck ‘Em

So, you’ve found a Ruin Guard in Genshin Impact and thought, “Look, a big friendly robot!” Wrong. These machines care little for friendly chats. They want to turn you into scrap metal. However, don’t worry! We are here to explore these ancient war machines. You will learn what it takes to survive and defeat them. This guide is exact and funny.

Ruin Guards 101: Know Your Enemy (and Their Backstory)

First, let’s talk basics. Ruin Guards are not just piles of metal animated by magic. They have history and lore. Plus, they stand taller than typical hilichurls. Here’s what you need to know:

  • What do you call a group of big Ruin Guards? We’re not sure if they have a collective noun like ‘murder’ of crows. Maybe a ‘menace’ of Ruin Guards? We can figure it out later. The key point is that facing multiple Ruin Guards can be tough.
  • Ancient History Buffs. These machines are OLD. We’re talking 4000-6000 years ago old. Even during the Archon Wars, which occurred 3700 years ago, Ruin Guards were already ancient tech. Imagine finding a flip phone in a museum, but it can shoot lasers!
  • Towering Titans. A Ruin Guard stands at 13 feet and 8.5 inches tall with arms stretching 9 feet. They can reach heights that you cannot. Don’t ask if you can use them as a basketball hoop.
  • “Field Tillers”? More like “Field Killers.” Their Khaenri’ahn codename was “Field Tiller.” It sounds gentle, but these machines were built for WAR. Imagine expecting tractors at a farm and finding these instead. Not friendly.
  • Made in Khaenri’ah. Khaenri’ah created these mechanical giants. This nation is long gone and was known for its advanced tech. They focused on robots and paid the price.
  • War Machines by Design. Just to emphasize, they are war machines. They were disguised as “Field Tillers” to sound less threatening. Marketing was not their strong suit.

Ruin Guard Real Estate: Location, Location, Location

If you want to find a Ruin Guard, they are not hiding. Knowing where to look will save time. Consider this your guide. Good locations include:

  • Dragonspine’s Chilly Embrace. Want to cool off? Head to Dragonspine for Ruin Guards. You can find a trio in a cave near the Snow-Covered Path teleport. Follow the snowy road to find chaos. One more lies in a giant hole northwest of the Statue of the Seven.
  • Inazuma’s Ruin Sentinel Squad. Inazuma hosts Ruin Sentinels. They are faster than Ruin Guards. They spread across the region:
    • Araumi (well nearby)
    • Suigetsu Pool (get wet)
    • North of Sangonomiya Shrine (divine help maybe)
    • Koseki Village (lots of ruins)
    • Amakumo Peak (high-altitude fun)
    • North of Tsurumi Island (misty chaos)
    • North of Pardis Dhyai (a robot oasis)
    • Vimara Village (village fun vs robots)

Combat Tactics: Turning Robots into Ruin-ed Guards

Now it is strategy time. Ruin Guards hit hard, but they have weaknesses. Use these tips to win:

  • Elemental Burst Barrage. Want to take down a Ruin Guard quickly? Elemental Bursts do the trick. Especially Pyro and Electro combinations. Overloaded reactions will drop their health fast. Time your attacks carefully.
  • Immunity? Bring Magic (and Not Poison). They have immunity to many types of damage: poison, mental attacks, and regular attacks. A rusty sword won’t help much. Use magic and elemental attacks instead; they work wonders.
  • Weak Points Exposed: Eye and Legs. Think of Ruin Guards as giant targets. Their weak points are their eye and legs. Aim carefully to stun them. Attack their knees for success.
  • Ruin Grader Weak Spots: Eye, Legs… Sound Familiar? Ruin Graders have the same weak points: eye and legs. Perfect targets!
  • Ruin Destroyer Patience is a Virtue. Facing a Ruin Destroyer? Patience is crucial. Their flashing phase makes them invulnerable. Wait for an opening before attacking.
  • Missile Dodging 101. Missiles can be annoying but possible to dodge. Sideways walk, then dash away. You must dance around them!
  • Ruin Sentinels: Lightning and Magic. They are weak to lightning and magic. Zap them and blast them for victory!
  • Ruin Grader Beatdown: Weak Points, Again! Seriously, keep this in mind: eye and legs are their weaknesses!
  • Fire Arrows to the Eye? Classic. For a direct assault, fire at their eye. Robots seem sensitive there.
  • Paralyzing Sentinels: Core Exposure. Elite Ruin Sentinels expose their cores while attacking. Utilize those openings to hit hard and paralyze them.

Ruin Guard Relatives: The Extended Robot Family

The Ruin Guards are not the only metallic threats in Teyvat. They have family , some tougher than others. Get to know them:

  • Ruin Drakes: Flying Annoyances. These creatures soar and share a similar weakness. Hit their noses, thrusters, or bellies when they attack for effective strikes.
  • Primo Geovishap: Shield Up! Face this beast with shields ready. Reflect its Primordial Shower attack back to deal damage!

Respawn Rates: The Robot Circle of Life (Sort Of)

  • Ruin Grader Daily Special (Dragonspine Only). Good or bad news? Ruin Graders DO respawn at Dragonspine. But only one per day!

Khaenri’ah and the Robot Uprising: A History Lesson

Khaenri’ah and Ruin Guards have intertwined histories.

  • Khaenri’ah: Robot Central. Ruin Guards are totally Khaenri’ahn tech. They were known for robots globally.
  • Khaenri’ah’s Downfall: Forbidden Knowledge and Angry Gods. Why did Khaenri’ah fall? They were too curious, seeking forbidden knowledge and suffering divine wrath. Playing with fire led to their ruin.
  • Germanic/Nordic Vibes. Their culture reflects Germanic and Nordic myths—think runes and ancient powers.
  • Element-less Wonders. Khaenri’ah lacked a god or elemental vision. Their creations stemmed from human skill alone.
  • Archon Casualties. The fall of Khaenri’ah took down Raiden Makoto, the original Electro Archon, setting the stage for her sister Ei’s rule.
  • Dainsleif: Khaenri’ah’s Last Stand (Sort Of).Dainsleif has deep ties to Khaenri’ah. He fights against both the Seven Nations and the Abyss Order while cleaning up the mess left behind.
  • further robot chaos.
  • Kaeya: Aging Unlike Ruin Guards. Kaeya shows that not all Khaenri’ah ancestors are immortal or robotic. He grew up normally, left the Dawn Winery. Ruin Guards remain menacing at the same age forever.

Golem Galaxy: Beyond Genshin

Ruin Guards are golems, so let’s look beyond Genshin. Golems appear in various games. There is more to discover.

Golem Types and Takedown Tips

  • Weakest Golem? Flesh Golems. In golem ranks, flesh golems sit at the bottom. Clay, stone, and iron follow in strength. Ruin Guards rank between stone and iron, leaning toward “durable annoyance.”
  • Golem Ingredient: Human Bone. The key to creating golems? Crushed human bone. It is just 1% of a golem’s makeup, with earth materials making up 99%. It’s a secret; asking golems about it is rude.
  • Iron Golems Love Fire. Iron Golems sometimes heal from fire. Try throwing a bonfire at a Ruin Guard; it may not heal them but fire usually harms robots in Genshin.

Golems in Other Games: A Golem Tour

  • Armored Furnace Golems in Elden Ring DLC. Elden Ring’s DLC adds Furnace Golems. Some laugh at your weak attacks. To take them down, get headshots with fire pots. Fire against fire is smart, right?
  • Eight Furnace Golems in Elden Ring DLC. If you seek golems in Elden Ring’s DLC, you’ll find eight Furnace Golems. They are scattered across the Realm of Shadow, except in Abyssal Woods. Golems dislike abysses.
  • Ruin Golems in Sumeru, Genshin. Yes, there are Ruin *Golems* in Genshin too! These differ from Ruin Guards. Hunt them in Wounded Shin Valley, Devantaka Mountain, and the Valley of Dahri.
  • Praetorian Golems of Fontaine: Underwater Fun. Fontaine has about 20 Praetorian Golems in the Sea of Bygone Eras. Underwater battles keep Genshin exciting.
  • Praetorian Golem Farming Routes. To farm Praetorian Golems, go to the Sea of Bygone Eras. Routes around Initium Iani and Caesareum Palace yield a few golems each run. Good luck farming!
  • Guardian Golem in Elden Ring’s Limgrave. Find Elden Ring’s Guardian Golem in Highroad Cave in Limgrave. Optional dungeon and optional golem, your call.
  • Furnace Golems: Worth the Trouble? Yes, Furnace Golems drop DLC Crystal Tears. They are great for upgrading your Wondrous Physick flask.
  • Infinite Furnace Visage Farming? You can farm Furnace Visage infinitely by staying at the first Shadow Keep Site of Grace in Elden Ring. Harvest parts efficiently.

Minecraft Golems: Blocky Buddies

  • Minecraft Golem Variety: 15+ Types. Minecraft offers many golems. Cobblestone Golems, Furnace Golems, Giant Magma Golems, and more exist. There are over 15 types across editions and modes. Strong diversity!

Terraria Golems: Hardmode Havoc

  • Eye of the Golem: Rare Accessory. In Terraria, the Eye of the Golem is a Hardmode accessory from the Golem boss. It grants a +10% critical strike chance. Grind for it if you love crits!
  • The Destroyer’s Weakness: Multi-Hit Attacks. Terraria’s Destroyer is weak against weapons hitting multiple times or segments simultaneously. Spread damage is key here.
  • Armor Up for the Destroyer. Use Adamantite armor, Orichalcum armor, Shadow Dodge buff, or Shield of Cthulhu for The Destroyer fight. Armor up!

Random Tidbits: Trivia

Here’s a grab bag of random facts. Some might be interesting.

  • Yiddish for Monster: “Shrek.” “Shrek” means monster in Yiddish. Derived from German “Schreck,” meaning fright. Ogres link to terror in language too.
  • Still-Smoldering Hilt: A Drop. Praetorian Golems drop Still-Smoldering Hilt, a Character and Weapon Enhancement Material. The bits help with weapon upgrades.
  • Hyperbloom Guide. Need help on Hyperbloom? Search Google. This piece focuses on Ruin Guards.
  • God’s Guard Immunity Level: 458. “God’s Guard” grants immunity at Level 458. Useful to know for leveling up.
  • Ruin Graders Respawn Daily (Dragonspine). One Ruin Grader respawns daily in Dragonspine. Set your farming timers!
  • “Der Freischütz” Achievement in Genshin. Unlock the “Der Freischütz” Achievement in Genshin. Achievements are a valid pursuit too!
  • Kul Tiran Height: 7’9″. Kul Tiran humans in World of Warcraft are incredibly tall. Males stand around 7’9″. Taller than Ruin Guards!
  • 12,000-Year-Old Monument. A 12,000-year-old monument may be humanity’s oldest calendar. Ancient monuments and robots—no direct link though.
  • Vecna’s Age: Late 30s (Stranger Things). Vecna in Stranger Things Season 4 could be late 30s in 1986. Still no robots linked to Demogorgons.
  • NPC for Ruin Sentinels in Dark Souls 2? Yes, Pilgrim Bellclaire can be summoned for Ruin Sentinels in Dark Souls 2 if no players are present.
  • Ruin Sentinels: Optional Boss in Dark Souls 2. You can skip Ruin Sentinels in Dark Souls 2 if you wish. But where’s the fun?
  • True Ruler of Dragonspine: Great Snowboar King. Dragonspine’s true ruler is the Great Snowboar King. Giant boars > robots?
  • Geo Weakness: Geo and Heavy Attacks. Geo shields are weak against Geo and Heavy attacks in Genshin. Geo meets Geo in a rock battle.
  • Secret Room in Dragonspine. Discover a secret room with three boxes in Dragonspine near the teleport waypoint in 「Entombed City – Ancient Palace」. Loot awaits!
  • Crumbling Kingdom: Sal Vindagnyr. Sal Vindagnyr was destroyed about 2600 years ago. Ancient kingdoms may not connect directly to robots but remain relevant.
  • Tartaglia’s Abyss Fall: Bear Chase. Tartaglia (Childe) fell into the Abyss at 14 while fleeing bears and wolves. Abysses and forests? Perhaps a stretch now.

You have it! A humorous and concise guide to Ruin Guards and their golem relatives. Go conquer those robots and : aim for their eyes!
