Is Crit Rate Good in Genshin Impact? A Deep Dive into Crits and Stats

So, you’re wandering around Teyvat, slashing hilichurls and solving puzzles. You hear about “Crit Rate.” Is it just another cryptic Genshin Impact term? Buckle up, adventurer. We’re unraveling the mystery of Crit Rate. Spoiler alert: it’s worth your artifact farming time, but there’s more to it than just numbers.

Crit Rate vs. Crit Damage: The Eternal Balancing Act

Crit Rate and Crit Damage are the duo of damage dealing. Crit Rate is your chance of landing a critical hit. Crit Damage shows how much bigger those numbers get. It’s like flipping a coin versus winning the lottery. Crit Rate gives more flips, Crit Damage makes those flips worth it.

  • The Golden Ratio (1:2): Aim for a 1:2 ratio between Crit Rate and Crit Damage. For every point of Crit Rate, get about two points of Crit Damage. Balance is key. Too much Crit Damage with low Crit Rate is like having a Ferrari with no fuel. It looks great, but does not go far.
  • Crit Rate First, Always (Almost): If choosing between a Crit Rate hat and a Crit Damage hat, and your Crit Rate is low, grab the Crit Rate one. Why? Because critting sometimes is better than critting hard never. A 60% Crit Rate and 110% Crit Damage build outperforms a 50% Crit Rate and 120% Crit Damage setup. So , Crit Rate counts.
  • Don’t Ditch Crit Damage Entirely: While Crit Rate is king of consistency, don’t ignore Crit Damage completely. Imagine a 90% Crit Rate but only 50% Crit Damage. You’ll crit often, but those crits will barely hurt your enemies. Find the balance between critting often and hitting hard.
  • Character Personalities (Builds and Playstyles): Every Genshin character has unique needs. Some crave Crit Rate, like those who deal consistent damage, while others can focus on Crit Damage. Read talents, understand roles, and build accordingly.
  • Artifacts and Weapons: Your Stat Goldmines: Artifacts and weapons are your main sources for Crit Rate and Crit Damage. Keep an eye on main stats and substats. A Crit Rate circlet is often a game-changer. Weapons with Crit substats are desirable. Happy farming!
  • Avoid Stat Saturation (Diminishing Returns are Real): Chasing ratios is good, but don’t get tunnel vision. Genshin focuses on overall output. If you min-max that last 5% of Crit Rate at the cost of significant ATK or Elemental DMG Bonus, it might not be worth it.

What’s a “Good” Crit Rate and Crit Damage Anyway?

Balance is essential, but what numbers should you aim for? “Good” is subjective. Here are some ballpark figures for your artifact grind:

  • The 50% Baseline: Aim for at least 50% Crit Rate on most damage dealers. Around half your hits will crit, a decent starting point.
  • Wanderer’s Windfall (75%+): For main damage dealers like Wanderer, aim for 75% Crit Rate or higher. Pair it with 150%+ Crit Damage for a serious DPS machine.
  • Raiden’s Reliable Crits (70%/120%+): The Electro Archon prefers 70% Crit Rate and 120%+ Crit Damage. This ensures her Musou Isshin hits with great force.
  • Xiao’s Plunging Power (70%+): Our favorite Yaksha needs at least 70% Crit Rate for devastating plunge attacks. Balance his Crit stats in a 1:2 ratio for maximum Anemo damage.
  • Keqing’s Keen Edge (60-70%/200-250%): For Keqing, target around 60% Crit Rate, but 70% is better. Then pile on the Crit Damage, aiming for 200%-250% for electrifying Electro slashes.
  • Hu Tao’s HP-Fueled Havoc (40-70%): Hu Tao needs around 60-70% Crit Rate for reliable crits due to her low HP ive bonus. After that, focus on stacking Crit Damage.

The Myth of Maximum Crit Rate (and the Gameplay Cap)

You might ask, “Can I get 100% Crit Rate?” The answer is… almost! The highest achievable Crit Rate without food buffs is around 127.4%. However, the in-game maximum is 99.3%. Don’t worry about hitting exactly 100%; 99.3% works – every hit will crit.

100% Crit Rate: Guaranteed Crits and Overcapping

What happens when you push Crit Rate beyond 100%? Every attack becomes a critical hit. It’s like always flipping heads. Some mechanics convert excess Crit Rate into extra Crit Damage. This is character-specific and tied to ives, making “overcapping” beneficial in some cases, adding extra damage.

Crit Value (CV): Your Artifact Scorecard

Want a quick way to assess your artifact? Enter Crit Value (CV). It’s a simple formula that gives you a number for the artifact’s Crit stat quality:

Crit Value (CV) = Crit Damage + (Crit Rate x 2)

We multiply Crit Rate by 2 because it’s generally considered twice as valuable as Crit Damage for damage consistency. Here’s a CV rating scale for your artifact hoard:

  • 40+ CV: God Tier. These artifacts are unicorns. Cherish them and build around them.
  • 30-39 CV: Great. Excellent pieces that boost damage significantly. Worth keeping and upgrading.
  • 20-29 CV: Average. Decent artifacts. Good placeholders while farming for better options, or fine for s with low reliance on crit.
  • Below 20 CV: Below Average to Bad. Often fodder material unless other substats are exceptional for niche builds. Keep farming.

, CV is a guideline, not a strict rule. Context matters. A low CV artifact might be better for than a high CV one with useless substats.

Character-Specific Crit Rate Quirks

Some characters have unique interactions with Crit Rate worth noting:

  • Hu Tao: 60% is Enough (Seriously): Hu Tao’s low-HP Crit Rate buff means she only needs around 60% Crit Rate. This allows focus on Elemental Mastery and HP for her damage.
  • Kazuha: Crit? Who Needs It? (EM Build): For Kazuha as an Elemental Mastery , Crit stats are irrelevant. Focus on stacking EM.
  • Rosaria: Sharing is Caring (Crit Rate Sharing): Rosaria’s A4 ive shares her Crit Rate after using her burst. This lets players build her with lower Crit Rate while boosting the team’s crit chances.
  • to maximize this sharing potential.
  • Xiao: Born to Crit (61% Base): Xiao receives a notable Crit Rate bonus at ascension. At level 90, he has a large 61% Crit Rate! This makes his build easier. You start with a solid foundation to develop.

Beyond Crits: Other Stats That Matter

Crit is important. But it is not everything. While vital, it is just one piece of damage. Let’s quickly cover other stats that influence damage:

  • ATK vs. ATK%: Percentage Power: At high levels, ATK% is superior to flat ATK. Why? Because ATK% scales off your base attack, which grows as you level characters and weapons. Flat ATK is fixed and becomes less important as base ATK increases.
  • Elemental Mastery (EM): Reaction Amplifier: If your character triggers elemental reactions, Elemental Mastery is vital. It boosts damage of these reactions. For teams focused on reactions, EM leads.
  • Physical DMG Bonus vs. ATK: Physical vs. Everything Else: ATK boosts all damage types. Physical DMG Bonus boosts only physical damage. If your character uses physical attacks, like Razor or Eula, Physical DMG Bonus is needed. For elemental damage dealers, Elemental DMG Bonus is key.

Boosting Your Crit Damage: A Quick Toolkit

Need more Crit Damage? Here are ways to enhance those crit numbers:

  • Equipment Base Stats: Weapons and artifacts can have base stats, including Crit Damage. Focus on weapons and circlets with Crit Damage main stats.
  • Critical Enchant on Swords: Some weapons have ives or effects that grant Crit Damage.
  • Potions (Temporary Boosts): Food buffs and potions can temporarily boost Crit Rate and Crit Damage for tough fights.
  • Pet Perks: Certain pets in RPGs can offer minor Crit Damage buffs.
  • Reforging Equipment: Reforging or enhancing artifacts can raise substat values, including Crit Damage.

Critical Hit Mechanics: The 1.5x Multiplier (and Beyond)

A critical hit deals 1.5 times normal damage in Genshin Impact. This is a 50% increase. Certain talents, constellations, or buffs can enhance this multiplier, causing more damage. Older games might double damage, but 1.5x is normal.

So, is Crit Rate good? Yes. It is key for steady damage. Prioritize it when building characters. Balance it with Crit Damage, know your characters’ needs, and happy critting, Traveler!
