Delving into the Depths: Unmasking Subnautica’s Inactive Lava Zone

So, you think you’ve explored all of Subnautica? Think again! The Inactive Lava Zone awaits your curiosity. It’s not just a coral reef; it’s deeper, hotter (though inactive), and full of surprises.

Let’s skip to the facts. The Inactive Lava Zone is a massive 900 meters below the surface. That’s right, nine hundred meters. It drops as deep as 1300 meters. Just a hint: your Seamoth will struggle long before you reach this place, even if it has depth modules.

This zone acts like the VIP lounge before the real fun starts. It’s the second deepest biome in Subnautica. Physical location? Imagine the Lava Lakes, that active fiery area we know well. The Inactive Lava Zone sits right above it. It’s a cooler waiting area for volcanic activities below.

Want to reach this mysterious zone? You have options, but they are not easy. There are two main entrances. Use your maps to find them, specifically in the ‘Lost River’ layer. These lead down into the unknown.

Saying goodbye to your Seamoth is necessary here. You need bigger vehicles for this stretch. An upgraded Cyclops acts as your mobile base. Think luxury submarine. For agile movement, use the Prawn Suit. With upgrades, it’s perfect for mining resources in the depths.

You made it down! What’s in it for you? Resources galore! If you need diamonds, you’re in luck. The Inactive Lava Zone is home to many of them. There’s also silver ore, ideal for crafting. Plus, you’ll find loads of titanium, lying around and in large deposits. Even kyanite, that brilliant blue material, awaits your discovery. This zone is a treasure trove for Subnauticans.

But it’s not just resources here. Inside this geological wonder lies the Alien Thermal Plant. It’s located within the Lava Castle. Smallest of alien bases? Yes. But it is rich in secrets and lore. Who wouldn’t want to uncover mysteries at such depths?

What about the residents? The Inactive Lava Zone is far from empty. You will encounter the remarkable and intimidating Sea Dragon Leviathans. Only two of these giants roam this region. They serve as the welcoming party, equipped with fierce teeth.

Geographically, we need to discuss the Lava Lakes again. That area is the Active Lava Zone, located directly beneath the Inactive Lava Zone. Imagine downstairs neighbors who erupt molten rock. Coming from the Lost River, it connects to this zone. Follow the river past the Disease Research Facility. Look for a “small” crevice on the right wall. It leads you down into the Inactive Lava Zone.

Before you go, a quick tip: bring your Blue Tablets. They grant access to the Alien Thermal Plant and unlock the Moonpool room inside it. You can find one Blue Tablet in Thermal Plant and craft more from it. Bureaucracy exists even underwater, it seems. Stock up on those Blue Tablets and upgrade your gear. Prepare for an adventure in the Inactive Lava Zone. Just avoid becoming Sea Dragon Leviathan lunch!
