What is ‘The Warchief Awaits’ Quest?

The Warchief Awaits is a quest that requires the player to meet with an important character in the Undercity to discuss discreet matters. It emphasizes the need for privacy and warns the player to ensure they are not followed due to the presence of SI:7 spies in Orgrimmar.

This quest begins the War of the Thorns world event from the Horde perspective and is offered automatically on to players who have logged in during the Battle for Azeroth Pre-Patch. Accept the quest, travel to Undercity, and enter the Royal Quarter at coords 52.4, 64.4. Continue on to coords 57.8, 91.6, and turn in the quest to Lady Sylvanas Windrunner.

However, it’s important to note that The Warchief Awaits and A Short-Lived Peace quests are no longer available. They were part of a temporary event before the launch of Battle for Azeroth.

Understanding the Importance of ‘The Warchief Awaits’ in BFA

The Warchief Awaits is significant as it is part of the War of the Thorns event. This event marks the conflict between the Horde and Alliance for control over Teldrassil. It runs from July 24th to August 14th, leading up to the launch of Battle for Azeroth. Players engage in various quests, focusing on combat and strategy to either defend or attack critical locations.

Sylvanas’s intention is to seize Darnassus to manage the flow of Azerite. She fears that Anduin could use it to threaten the Horde. By eliminating Malfurion Stormrage, Sylvanas aims to instill fear in the Darnassians, hoping to compel their submission and prevent resistance. This quest significantly impacts both factions emotionally, as it highlights the fierce struggles for dominance.

Completion of the War of the Thorns campaign offers unique, faction-specific mounts as rewards. Once players finish the questline for one faction, they can access the mount of the opposing faction without repeating the questline.

The The Warchief Awaits quest in Battle for Azeroth initiates the War campaign for both factions. To begin this quest, players must locate specific NPCs next to their respective war boards: Hero’s Herald for the Alliance and Warchief’s Herald for the Horde. This process guides players through vital scenarios and cutscenes, ultimately allowing them to choose a zone to kick off their adventure in BFA.

Additionally, after the pre-patch launches on July 17th, the Horde will receive the quest The Warchief Awaits upon logging in. This quest instructs players to report to Sylvanas in the Undercity. Sylvanas and her forces launch a surprise attack on the Night Elves using the power of Azerite machines. This is particularly concerning as Anduin has primarily sent the fleet to Silithus.

This quest is categorized as a level 10 quest. Players report to Warchief Sylvanas Windrunner in the Undercity, earning +10 reputation with the Horde. However, players have noted that they encountered the quest at level 113, requiring travel to an Undercity afflicted by Blight/Poison, which is now lost.
