Recommended Level for Calasmos Battle

Recommended Level for Calasmos Battle:

First off, you’ll want to make sure your entire party is around level 70 at least. Level 70-ish should be fine if you’re not playing on a Draconian Quest restriction.

To achieve this, use the Metal Slime farming technique linked above for an easier strategy. Farming Metal Slimes can earn you 5+ Levels per battle. Additionally, ensure that you equip the best armor and weapons. For powerful armor and weapons, repair Cobblestone to unlock Derk’s store, where he sells impressively powerful end-game gear.

Even if you’ve reached Level 99, bear in mind that this foe can easily wipe your party or grind you down into dust over the course of the battle. So, to defeat him, you need to prepare.

Now, the biggest challenge is figuring out that you can use the Super Sword of Light to severely weaken Calasmos. Before using the sword, Calasmos is just difficult enough that it seems—almost—possible to win. So, don’t give yourself a headache. Just use the sword to drain its power, then you’ll have a fair fight on your hands.

Moreover, it’s recommended you complete at least the last four sidequests of Dragon Quest XI to give a boost to Rab’s magical power, Serena’s healing power, the Hero’s Luminary abilities, and Hendrik’s Blind Man’s Biff.

Calasmos Fight Strategies in DQ11

To defeat Calasmos, you need to:

  • Prepare and reach at least Level 70+.
  • Farm Metal Slimes to earn 5+ levels per battle.
  • Equip the best armor and weapons unlocked through Derk’s store after repairing Cobblestone.

Most importantly, use the Super Sword of Light. Equip this weapon and select it as an item during your turn to:

  • Dispel the fog around Calasmos.
  • Reduce his attack, defense, and turn speed.

Additionally, you should:

  • Focus on using Oomphle on your main fighters.
  • Ensure Serena is your dedicated healer utilizing Omniheal.
  • Utilize Henrick’s special abilities to lower enemy defense.
  • Have the Hero focus on powerful single-target attacks.

Moreover, target Calasmos’ arms first to:

  • Remove their turns.
  • Once only the body remains, unleash your strongest attacks while maintaining defenses and healing.

When Calasmos is low on health, it will:

  • Stop time and may revive its arms.
  • Continue to focus on the body instead.

If you’re not playing on a Draconian Quest restriction, being in the 70s range with gear obtained in chests and recipes from Drustan’s Trials will allow you to defeat Calasmos comfortably enough.

Understanding Calasmos: Who is the Final Boss?

Understanding Calasmos:

Calasmos is the optional final boss and the true antagonist of Dragon Quest XI.

He is an ancient evil that once attempted to cover the world of Erdrea in darkness after defeating Yggdragon.

The Dark One fought against the original Luminary, Erdwin, and his allies and was defeated.

Final Boss Level Requirements:

  • Get to Level 70+. Use the Metal Slime farming technique for an easier strategy.
  • Level 70-ish should be fine if you’re not playing on a Draconian Quest restriction.
  • With the right setup and strategy, you can beat him at level 50.

Additionally, Calasmos has:

  • 11,000 HP for his body.
  • 5,000 HP for his arms.
  • Infinite MP on PS4/3D and 999 MP on 3DS/2D.

Best Equipment to Equip Against Calasmos

To defeat Calasmos effectively, it’s essential to prepare and equip the right items. The most crucial piece of equipment is the Super Sword of Light, which you will automatically collect as you progress through Part 3. This sword can only be equipped by the Hero, and using it is necessary to weaken Calasmos.

To use the Super Sword of Light, make sure it is in the Hero’s inventory. During the battle, select ‘Item’ on the Hero’s turn, then choose the Super Sword of Light. Doing so will:

  • Dispel the fog around Calasmos.
  • Lower Calasmos’ attack, defense, and turn speed.
  • Allow for greater damage output against him.

As soon as you start the fight with Calasmos, switch to the Super Sword of Light and use it like an item. This will significantly weaken Calasmos, making him easier to defeat.

For maximizing your damage to Calasmos, consider the following strategies:

  • Use Oomphle (from Veronica or Sylvando) to enhance the attack power of your main fighters, such as the Hero, Jade, or Henrick.
  • Focus on Henrick’s special abilities to lower enemy defense.
  • Hero should use his strongest single-attack abilities, especially with the Great Sword, targeting Calasmos’ arms first (remove the claw, then the cannon) to eliminate their turns.
  • Keep utilizing your highest MP powers and continually debuff Calasmos’ defense.

Additionally, ensure your team has strong healing capabilities. Use Serena to unlock Omniheal as a dedicated healer and consider using Rab for Multiheal every turn.

In summary, to successfully fight Calasmos:

  • Equip the Super Sword of Light in the Hero’s inventory and use it as an item in battle.
  • Employ high damage output with Jade and Eleven, leveraging their consistent DPS.
  • Utilize buff and healing from Sylvando and Serena.

Essential Skills for Defeating Calasmos in DQ11

To defeat Calasmos in DQ11, focus on these essential skills and strategies:

  • Bring the Luminary, Erik, Veronica, and a character who can use poison, like Sylvando. This formation allows you to exploit Erik’s Victimiser skill to deal 600% damage.
  • Apply Oomphle when possible. Then, have Erik use his Divide skill for a total of 1,800% damage.
  • Alternatively, use Veronica and Serena’s Mighty Magic Burst pep power to deal up to 5,994 damage in one turn. Note that this will deplete both girls’ MP until you use restoration items.

To optimize the Mighty Magic Burst strategy:

  • Pep both twins before the battle starts by any means necessary.
  • Ensure every frontline party member carries at least one Elfin elixir and one Pep Pop (it must be a Pep Pop and not a Pep Pip).
  • Utilize the Sword of Light to dispel the damage-halving effect on Calasmos, allowing for maximum damage during your attacks.
  • Use Mighty Magic Burst at the first possible opportunity after dispelling the shield.

For subsequent actions:

  • In the next 3 actions, regardless of who takes them, use Elfin elixirs on the twins followed by a Pep Pop to pep both twins simultaneously, while keeping an eye on the need to heal.
  • Both twins should aim to have max MP and be pepped. Cast Mighty Magic Burst again when the opportunity arises. Ensure that the combined MP of the twins is at least 1,834, allowing Mighty Magic Burst to deal 5,502 or more damage, which is crucial for defeating Calasmos.

At the start of the fight:

  • Switch to the Super Sword of Light on your Hero. Use it like an Item to dispel the darkness protecting Calasmos—this weakens his attack, defense, and turn speed.
  • Make sure the Super Sword of Light is in the Hero’s inventory before using it in battle.

During the battle:

  • Target multiple parts with your attacks. Veronica’s Kaboomle ability with double cast is especially effective for this fight.
  • Always keep your party’s HP up to ensure survival throughout the encounter.

Calasmos Fight Mechanics: What to Expect

When preparing for the Calasmos fight, consider the following mechanics and requirements:

  • Ensure your character level is 70+ for a comfortable battle. However, with the right strategy, you can defeat Calasmos even at level 50.
  • Calasmos has a total of 11,000 HP for his body and 5,000 HP for his arms. His MP stats vary depending on the platform: infinite MP on PS4/3D, and 999 MP on 3DS/2D.
  • During the fight, use Hero to access ‘Items’ and select the sword of light. This action will remove the purple mist enveloping Calasmos, significantly weakening him.
  • Utilize effective strategies such as Erik’s Divide, and consider buffing him before employing Critical Claim.

Additionally, obtaining gear from chests and completing recipes from Drustan’s Trials will aid in your success.

How to Prepare for the Calasmos Encounter

How to Prepare for the Calasmos Encounter

Some Quick Tips to know before taking on Calasmos are:

  • Give The Super Sword of Light to the Hero and “Use” it as soon as the fight starts.
  • Received in Act 3, using this as an item will greatly weaken Calasmos.
  • Without it, even a party of 90+ characters will struggle.
  • Equip the best weapons and armor available.

Equipment and Level Requirements

  • Calasmos is significantly stronger in the 3D Version than in the 3DS/2D version.
  • You will need to be a higher level in the 3D version (75+) than the 3DS/2D version (60+).
  • It is recommended that your party average be around level 75.
  • Getting the best equipment you are able to get is crucial.
  • You can find the best equipment in the game in the Luminary trial as well as at Derk’s store once Cobblestone is rebuilt.

Preparations for the Battle

Before you begin the battle, it’s best to take some time out to prepare…

Make sure your party is outfitted in the very best equipment you can get your hands on.

  • The Hero: Supreme Sword of Light +3, Super Sword of Light, Erdwin’s Coronet +3, Erdwin’s Tunic +3.
  • Hendrik: Drustan’s Sword +3, Drustan’s Shield +3, Drustan’s Helm +3, Drustan’s Armor +3.
  • Erik: Hell Sabre +3, Sword of Judgment +3, Pirate King’s Cap +3, Pirate King’s Coat +3.
  • Serena: Faerie King’s Cane +3, Sceptre of Time +3, Serenica’s Circle +3, Serenica’s Surplice +3.
  • Jade: Metal King Spear +3, Xenlon Hair Ring +3, Xenlon Gown +3.
  • Veronica: Staff of Eternity +3, Crown of Eternity +3, Gown of Eternity +3.
  • Sylvando: Hypernova Sword, Metal King Shield +3, Tiara Tremendisima +3, Gladder Rags +3.
  • Rab: Brilliant Staff, Apollo’s Crown +3, Potentate’s Pallium +3.

Additionally, ensure you have:

  • MP restoring items and Yggdrasil leaves in your inventories.
  • It’s crucial that you have the Super Sword of Light on the Hero, either equipped or in his inventory.

During the Fight

To use the Super Sword of Light:

  • Select ‘Item’ on the Hero’s turn, then select the Super Sword of Light. Doing this during the Calasmos fight will dispel the fog around Calasmos, making him much weaker.

This hulking brute is incredibly tough. Even if you’ve reached Level 99, this foe can easily wipe your party, or grind you down into dust over the course of the battle.

Calasmos summons a giant fireball, indicating it is near death. If Calasmos’ health is in orange, it means he is at about 1000-2000 HP, so do your best to finish him off.

, Calasmos is one of the most difficult bosses in Dragon Quest XI and is required to get the True Ending.

Leveling Up: Getting to Level 70+ for Calasmos

To defeat Calasmos at level 70 in Dragon Quest XI, consider the following strategy:

  • Ensure your entire party is at least level 70.
  • Complete the last four sidequests to boost your characters’ abilities.
  • Farm Metal Slimes to earn levels quickly.
  • Equip powerful armor and weapons obtained from Derk’s store.
  • Use the Super Sword of Light to weaken Calasmos during the fight.
